My name is Takiera Darrow and I am a current senior at UCLA and member of PAC's Family Committee! With family, I have the opportunity to work directly with the kiddos and families of the Laurel Foundation. Together, we strive to create a community that is safe, supportive, and most importantly, empowering. Our mission is to encourage kiddos to discover their authentic selves, and build meaningful, lasting relationships with their peers and the community around them.

While this is my first year with PAC, it has been one of the most impactful experiences I have had throughout my four years at UCLA.  Everyday, I am moved by the hard work and dedication of this organization to fight for an AIDS free future. Through PAC, I have met so many remarkable people, listened to their stories, and learned about the true impact that HIV/AIDS has on not just an individual, but on their community as well.

Around 40.8 million people worldwide are living with HIV, which, without treatment, can progress to AIDS and severely weaken the immune system. Since 2004, AIDS-related deaths have dropped by 70 percent thanks to expanded access to antiretroviral therapy, with 31.6 million people receiving treatment by the end of 2024 compared to just 7.7 million in 2010. While this progress puts us within reach of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, recent funding cuts threaten to reverse these gains and increase new infections. With 1 in 140 people living with HIV and many unaware of their status, this issue affects every community, including yours, and requires continued action.

Any donation, no matter the dollar amount, makes a huge impact for the cause. A donation of just $12 provides treatment for a child for an ENTIRE MONTH, and a $70 donation covers a FULL YEAR of treatment for a pregnant woman living with HIV! This includes vital treatment and health visits, reducing the transmission rate from mother to baby to less than 1%!!!

Whether you give 1$, 5$, or 50$, your support brings us closer to a world where no child has to face HIV, and helps ensure that everybody, regardless of background or access to resources, has the opportunity to live a happy and healthy life.
